#20: National Nutrition Month®
This week, we will be discussing National Nutrition Month®. Also, today (March 12, 2025) is National Registered Dietitian (RD) Day! The second Wednesday of the month of March is alway celebrated as National RD Day. Go thank a Dietitian today for their work! (and give them a sweet treat). RD Day also marks a special occasion: one full year of this blog up and running! Happy Birthday to Sweet Peach Nutrition! For all of you who come back to read the blog, thank you so much. It means the world to me.
National Nutrition Month® is held every year in March. It is meant to be an educational and informative operation led by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. This campaign began in 1973, and has been going strong ever since. Each year, the theme will change and focus on information to help people with healthy eating. This year’s theme is: Food Connects Us.
Food is a great way to connect people, cultures, and ideas. Many people gather around the dinner table to share a meal, but they also share ideas, traditions, and memories. The preparation of the food is also just as important, for it can shed light to one’s cultural practices, one’s use of ingredients, and one’s view on the food from a health perspective. As a dietitian, I encourage you to step outside your food comfort zone and see what other foods can mean to other people and cultures. See what kinds of foods or ingredients can connect you to other people. Learn about other people’s use of foods or ingredients, for it can lead you to understand more about their culture.
